The main objective of Phase 2 of the Empowered Energy Solutions project is to take the learnings from Phase 1 project from 2022 -23 and make the information accessible to the community so households can start addressing their energy issues.

Key takeaways:

  • Learning about where homes lose heat and where more energy is used inefficiently and how to remedy these issues

  • How to make your home more energy efficient. (Products and building methods)

  • What renewable energy technology works well in the Upper Skeena region and how best to utilize this technology

  • Discuss where potential funding exists for retrofits like windows and doors etc.

1. Making the project information accessible

  • To get the information out to community we are developing a project website that will be the portal for all stages of the project and a platform to put future work on.

  • This project website will be a platform that you can learn specifics from topics including Residential Building Construction, home heating, and renewable energy.

  • Disseminating project information will also be done through meetings with community leaders and First Nation communities

2. Develop and Host Regional Energy Forum

  • This forum will be held on April 5th and 6th 2024 at the Sik E Dakh Gym

  •  The goal of this Forum is to give the community an opportunity to talk to experts in the areas of energy conservation and renewable energy technologies. Vendors include Heating specialists, residential and commercial construction contractors, trades colleges, BC Hydro, and Community Energy Association.

Conversations will include:

  • What are the latest and most efficient heating technologies that suit the Upper Skeena region climate and housing construction

  • How to make your home more energy efficient through construction methods and products

  • How making your home more efficient will help in climate change action

3. Develop Renewable Energy & Conservation Methods
     Decision Making Matrix

  • The goal of the decision-making matrix (DMM) will lay out a comprehensive guide to what is available in the ways of energy conservation methods, materials, and energy generation technology.  This Decision-Making matrix will be developed and written with home owners and local governments as the recipients and target audience.

  •  This matrix will be on the Project website and a limited number of printed resources will be produced that will go to local Band offices and local decision makers in the community.
